Commemorating Commonwealth Day at School – March 2024

On Monday 11th March 2024, our school commemorated Commonwealth Day which marked the beginning of a week-long series of events taking place around the 56 Commonwealth countries all over the world. This year, Commonwealth is celebrating 75 years. Our school was selected by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade from among all the schools in Malta to hold this event. Ms Kimberly Bonello, a representative of the Ministry attended the ceremony.

The activity started with a message from the Head of School, Dr Kenneth Vella, who explained the significance of this ceremony for the Commonwealth countries. Mira Gerada, the School Council President read the message of the Secretary-General, Hon. Patricia Scotland KC. Emma Marie Vella read the speech of King Charles III, followed by the hoisting of the Commonwealth Flag which was carried out by Aurora Cohen and Hazel Schembri. Emily Saliba and Mira Gerada read the affirmation. Ms Bonello shared a message on the occasion where she emphasised the importance of Commonwealth countries collaborating together. As a conclusion to the ceremony, the Senior 1 girls sang a song, under the guidance of Ms Mary Grace Grech, the Music teacher, with the participation of some of the Grade 6 and EkoSkola students.
