Celebrating World Bread Day – October 2022

16th October marks World Bread Day and for this occasion the school organised an activity for the Grade 3 and 4 classes on Friday 14th October in collaboration with Maypole. Mr Sebastian Debono, Director of Maypole, delivered a presentation on how bread is produced and its nutritional value. He emphasised on the importance of consuming bread properly. He reminded the girls about children who are suffering from hunger and do not have the luxury of eating bread. After the presentation, the girls were invited to prepare their own lunch. They had a wide selection of ingredients to make healthy lunches. The girls were instructed to bring their own reusable plate to use during the activity and also get their lunchbox in order to take any bread which was not consumed home.

After the break assembly, the school welcomed a special visitor, Ġiġi, the Maypole mascot, who met all the girls in the yard. Ġiġi emphasised the importance of consuming bread responsibly and not waste it. He also congratulated the Grade 3 and 4 girls for preparing healthy and nutritious lunches.

At the end of this event, Dr Kenneth Vella, head of school, thanked Mr Debono, Director and Mr Roderick Vella, Customer Relations and Events Manager of Maypole for regularly supporting the school. Special thanks go also to Ms Alexia Brincau, Assistant Head for coordinating this initiative and for organising this interesting activity which all the girls enjoyed.
