Celebrating World Book Day – April 2024

On the occasion of World Book Day, which was celebrated on Tuesday 23rd April 2024, various literacy and reading activities were organised for the students across all classes. The girls were invited to come to school dressed up in their favourite book character or author. Staff members also wore costumes related to different characters.

The Pre-Grade class had an interesting story-telling activity delivered by Ms Julie Mangion. The lower classes had a story-telling activity in the library where they had to describe the character they were wearing and from which book it was taken. Afterwards, Ms Veronique Sultana read to the girls a snippet from her favourite book.

The Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes had a very engaging story-telling session delivered by the Senior 2 and Senior 1 classes respectively. All classes had a Drop Everything and Read Time where they read an extract from their favourite book. The activities were led and coordinated by Ms Mary Grace Grech. The Grade 5 and Grade 6 classes had a presentation delivered by Prof Charles Briffa, a Maltese author. The Senior 1 and Senior 2 classes had an interesting session led by Ms Maria Laura Vella Clark, a support teacher within Fondazzjoni Sagħtar. The sessions were coordinated by Ms Rachel Sladden. Furthermore, different classes organised interesting activities related to reading, like drawing and craft sessions.

In relation to the day of celebration, the school organised a literacy information session for parents of the primary classes on the use of Maltese and English in the early and primary years. The session was led by Ms Lara Stagno, working within the National Literacy Agency.
