School Calendar First Term 2024-2025
Our school is participating in the European Week for Waste Reduction which is taking place this week. Given that the theme for this year’s edition is Food Waste, the EkoSkola Committee came up with the idea of preparing an ebook made up of recipes using leftover food to create awareness on reducing food waste. As a school, we have been working on this project since the summer holidays. All students were invited to share recipes and we were overwhelmed with the number of recipes we received, which were written by the students themselves. Moreover, the Senior 2 students researched and gathered recipes for homemade cleaning products using natural ingredients, which are cheaper alternatives to cleaning products and reduce expenses on cleaning detergents, thus reducing packaging waste. This initiative was also done in relation to the new pilot project our school is into about Financial Literacy that is being implemented with the Grade 5 class. This class in fact helped in the typing of the recipes during the ICT lessons after being shown videos in their Library lesson with Ms Mary Grace Grech, the Library teacher, to trigger discussion and also after having discussed certain financial literacy topics dealing with budgeting and saving amongst others in their PE lessons with Ms Amy Lewis, the PE teacher.
The Committee President, Norah Cassar, with the help of the EkoSkola Committee, prepared a short speech which was delivered by Lea Cassar, Vice-President, during the school assembly on Monday 18th November 2024. The ebook cover was sketched by Kate Falzon, of Senior 2. The ebook will be shared with all the students.
