Sicily Day Trip – July 2016

On Friday the 1st of July 2016 a group of 31 students from Senior 1 and Senior 2 accompanied by 3 of their teachers, had the opportunity to experience on site the topics that were taught to them at school during the past scholastic year.

St. Joseph, Mater Boni Consilii School, Paola, organises a day-trip to Sicily every two years in relation to their Italian and Geography lessons.  Students had the opportunity to practice the language whilst in Taormina particularly when they wanted to buy some souvenirs from the local shops. The girls also grasped the the concepts of volcanoes and living in a volcanic-area better when   they visited to Mount Etna.

Besides practicing the language and learning about the geography, students also learned something about the history, culture and traditions of the places they visited, during their guided tour.  At Taormina, the students had the chance to indulge in the traditional stone-oven-baked pizza and pasta during lunch in one of the restaurants and at Etna, they were also offered a taste of some of the local products including Modica’s traditional chocolate, paste di mandorla and torrone.

It was truly an unforgettable experience.
