Meet the Author Session – Ms Rita Azzopardi – February 2024

On Friday 23rd February 2024, our school invited Maltese author, Ms Rita Azzopardi. Ms Azzopardi is the author of ‘Rospo’, a book which was written as part of the Erasmus Project  called ‘Story Changers’. During the session, Ms Azzopardi gave valuable tips to our Grades 5 and 6 students related to writing tasks. She shared with them her experience of how she was always into writing and how she improved on her spelling by reading more books. The students were really engaged during the talk and at the end of the session, asked her a lot of questions, especially related to the book ‘Rospo’. With the help of Ms Ruth Mansueto, Assistant Head, who translated ‘Rospo’ to English, and also Ms Rachel Sladden, the Maltese teacher, who was the book’s proofreader, answered the students’ questions.

This event was put up in line with the current project of Connecting Classrooms where this year’s theme is National Authors. During the first connection, the African students already presented some national stories and in the coming connection, our students will present the book ‘Rospo’. During the ICT lessons, the Grade 5 class have already started working on a brochure to describe the characters. This material will then be printed and showcased in an exhibition during Book Week. Ms Azzopardi’s visit was coordinated by Ms Mary Grace Grech, the Library teacher.
