Earth Day 2015 – Sustainable is Possible!

On Wednesday 20th May 2015 the students, staff, parents, and distinguished guests celebrated Environment Day at Mater Boni Consilii   St. Joseph School Paola. This year is the 10th anniversary as a Green Flag School meaning that the school has completed 5 cycles and maintained Green Flag Status for 5 times and has now commenced the 6th cycle. The focus for this cycle is Water Conservation and Poverty.

On this auspicious occasion the Honourable Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Mr. Roderick Galdes inaugurated the official opening of the morning’s activities followed by a Tree Planting ceremony. Among other distinguished guest the Hon. Mr. George Pullicino as well as Mr. Vince Attard from Nature Trust were present for this occasion accompanied by Ms. Audrey Gauci and Mr. Johann Gatt from Y.R.E and L.E.A.F respectively. Also present were representatives from the Board of Governors and members of the Sisters’ Community.

The event consisted of a morning of activities which included speeches by our Eko Skola committee sharing their work and celebrating their successes as well as speeches by our honoured guests – the Hon. Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Roderick Galdes, as well as Mr. Vince Attard from Nature Trust.

The participants then assisted to a play prepared by the Pre- Grades and Grade 1’s ‘Litter Muncher’.   This was followed by Tree Planting of the Judas Tree as well as a presentation by Wasteserve regarding less food waste.   The parents and guests could also visit an on-going exhibition in the hall with the various themes of sustainable development. Later the students lead by the choir united in one voice singing ‘Sustainable is Possible’.
