BeSafeNet Olympiad 2024


On Friday, February 23rd 2024, a group of Senior 2 students, guided by Ms Madeleine Agius Carbonaro, the Science teacher, voluntarily formed teams and dedicated themselves to rigorous study in preparation for the BeSafeNet 2024 Olympiad, an annual competition focusing on natural and technological hazards.

The quiz was based on the content of www.BeSafeNet.net, a web-portal on risk awareness promoted by the EUR-OPA Agreement and developed in collaboration with the Cyprus Civil Defence.

The five subjects of the 2024 Olympiad were:

  • Climate Crisis
  • Cultural Heritage
  • Pandemics
  • Dam failures
  • Landslides

More than 290 teams, more than 1150 students and more than 100 schools from 10 different countries joined the challenge and competed.

The students who participated were Marielle Formosa, Elisa Jo Marie Portelli, Mira Gerada, Courtney Said, Bertha-Merie Muscat, Sarah Sacco, Andrea Gauci, Leah Psaila, Ilenia Fabri, Nicole Spiteri, Amy Leigh Pisani, Giorgia Gruttadauria and Valentina Degiorgio.

The girls’ dedication and hard work were truly inspiring, and the school is proud of their commitment to learning about natural and technological hazards while representing our school in this prestigious event. It was a
