Animal Awareness Day – October 2022

Tuesday 18th October 2022 was a special day for our school as we celebrated Animal Awareness Day. Several parents and guardians joined in the celebration by bringing their pets to school. In his message, Dr Kenneth Vella, Head of School, emphasised on the importance of taking care, love and respect animals.

The activity started with a presentation by Ms Sylvia, a volunteer working at Island Sanctuary who spoke to the girls about the work that the volunteers carry out with the dogs entrusted in their care. She also presented the dogs, Milton and Buttons, that the Senior 1 and Senior 2 classes will be sponsoring. At the end of the presentation, Ms Rachel Sladden and Ms Julie Tabone Valetta, 2 staff members, presented a sum of money that was collected by the students.

The Grade 4 class did a presentation on St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. At the end of the presentation, Ms Charlotte Zammit, read out the prayer of St Francis. This was followed by the blessing of the animals which were brought to school for the occasion. The blessing was led by Fr Leonard Mintoff, the school chaplain.

As is customary, the students donated animal food which was later presented to Island Sanctuary.

The activity was coordinated by Ms Alexia Brincau, one of the Assistant Heads, and the Pastoral Care Team, that prepared the presentation delivered by the Grade 4 students, with the help of Ms Julia Buttigieg and Ms Herta Camilleri.
