School Calendar Third Term 2024-2025
On Wednesday 21st May 2025, the school celebrated Earth Day with the main theme being Reducing Food and Packaging Waste. This day served to showcase the work carried out by the school community during this scholastic year.
This activity was attended by various guests. Sr Riches Grech, Sr Eugenie Ghirlando and Sr Bernardette Gafa’ represented the Sisters within the Congregation of St Joseph. Ms Audrey Gauci, Ms Cynthia Gauci and Mr Johann Gatt, EkoSkola link teachers, also attended the activity, as well as members of the Parent-Teachers Association. Ms Marie-Clare Church, a representative of Lidl Malta, and Ms Petra Ellul Mercer, Financial Capability Project Developer within JA Malta, also attended the celebration.
The activity started with the EkoSkola President, Norah Cassar, and Lea Cassar, Vice-President, outlining the main work carried out by our school in relation to the environment during this scholastic year. Emma Buttigieg read out a poem related to this year’s theme, Food Waste. Dr Kenneth Vella, the Head of School, highlighted the school’s great effort in its work to raise awareness on reducing food and packaging waste, both at school and also within the surrounding community. He commended the EkoSkola committee for their hard work, under the guidance of Ms Madeleine Agius Carbonaro, Ms Lycia Bezzina, Ms Alexia Brincau and Ms Cristina Spiteri, and he congratulated the school community for obtaining the 10th Green Flag.
During the celebration, Ms Audrey Gauci commended our school for its commitment in sustaining a green and safe environment, and congratulated our community for the remarkable feat of obtaining the 10th Green Flag. Ms Marie-Clare Church, thanked the EkoSkola Committee for working towards creating a greener and sustainable environment, and expressed her pride in supporting our school in such initiatives. Ms Petra Ellul Mercer spoke about the Financial Literacy project in which our school is participating this scholastic year and looks forward to supporting our school in becoming a Centre of Excellence in Financial Capability and Entrepreneurship.
During the celebration, the school launched an ebook consisting of recipes made out of leftover ingredients and creating natural cleaning products. The school thanks LIDL and Nature Trust – FEE Malta for their support in the creation of the ebook.
During the activity, Ms Mary Grace Grech, the Music teacher, directed the Grade 5 and Senior 2 students in singing songs with meaningful messages about the environment. The activity was compered by Julia Rose Attard and Kate Falzon, of Senior 2.
In the second part of the programme, all classes participated in different activities.
