From November 22nd till November 30th, all across Europe we celebrate European Week for Waste Reduction. The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) encourages all Europeans, and even non-Europeans, to carry out awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management during a single week in November. This year’s theme was E-Waste and our school presented several assemblies to raise more awareness about the subject. The Eko-Skola committee also took the initiative to find information and create mascots to promote this initiative. Our school also linked this activity with GreenPak’s “Batteries for Hospice” initiative, where our school collects used batteries which are collected by GreenPak which, in turn, provides a donation to Hospice Malta for every battery collected. Our school has also invited WasteServ’s speakers during Children’s day which was held on the 12th of November, in preparation for this week and will continue to promote recycling and upcycling through the creation of Christmas decorations using recycled objects. The work carried out by the committee is coordinated by Ms. Madeleine Agius Carbonaro, Ms. Lycia Bezzina, Ms. Ruth Mansueto and Ms. Cristina Spiteri, Eko-Skola link teachers.
