On Thursday 5th of March 2026, the Senior 2 students had the opportunity to visit DiHubMT at Mrieħel in relation to their ICT C3 subject at school. Led by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), DiHubMT is Malta’s first European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH), created to accelerate the digital transformation of start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The students were greeted by Ms. Marion Bugeja Micallef, the Innovation Ecosystem and Networking Officer at DiHubMt, where she explained this visit’s agenda. In the first part of the programme, our girls interacted with various women having different roles in the IT industry; each of them explained what their role entails, what subjects might come in handy to pursue their career, and they were also encouraged to never give up and to always continue studying as part of their life-long learning process. After this session, the students had the chance to discover a prospective career in ICT by choosing 3 hobbies or subjects of their likings through an interactive game played on site. Afterwards, they were toured around the premises and were given a brief explanation of what each laboratory consists. They saw the Internet of Things (IoT) Lab, the 3-D Printing Lab, the podcast room and the HPCMT (High-Performance Computing Malta), Malta’s premier supercomputing system designed to accelerate research, innovation, and digital transformation. At the end of the visit, three of our students were also filmed and interviewed about what they had learnt during the visit.
This session was led and coordinated by Ms. Cristina Spiteri, ICT teacher.
