On Monday 27th January 2026, Mr. Glenn Bugeja, Head of Corporate Sustainability for HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c., and Mr. Horace Laudi, Policy Consultant within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, visited our school during the Grade 5s Library / ICT lesson to witness the Financial Literacy sessions that are being delivered at school. Last October, our school was accredited the Centre of Excellence Award in Financial Literacy during the Financial Capability conference after 3 teachers from our school had received training and were implementing financial literacy in their respective lessons. Ms. Amy Lewis, in her P.E. lessons, was making the students aware about the financial market. Ms. Mary Grace Grech, in her Library and Music lessons, discussed wants and needs and budgeting; during the ICT lessons with Ms. Cristina Spiteri, the students had the chance to do some hands-on activities.
During the session, the girls were shown a video as a teaser and then several points came out and the discussion flourished – several points including wants vs needs, earning money, plastic vs. Real money, online banking with its advantages and disadvantages, saving, budgeting and saving for the future were all mentioned during this lesson.
